HARDWARE
The
Recast hardware consists of at least one Site Controller per store and one
slave unit at each Point of Sale. The slave unit sits between the point of sale computer and the standard peripheral devices found at the Point of Sale. These are typically receipt printers, scanners and keyboards. The slave unit allows for connections over standard communications interfaces, RS232 Serial and bi-directional parallel as well as standard PS2 interfaces for the keyboard.
The slave unit intercepts the data between these peripheral devices and the Point of sale and can modify the data on the way through to change the output or interpret the data to extract information for use elsewhere.
The
Site Controller controls communication from all the slave units to the Recast
servers . Configuration data for the slave is sent down over the internet
to the site controller and then forwarded to the slave units. The internet
connection can be standard Ethernet or over GPRS wireless links, both options
are offered as standard.
